@corbinmichael123 That’s how movies have always been. Keep in mind that the only reason we think movies were SO good back then is because we don’t remember all the crap. Around this time there had been dozens of Spaghetti westerns made. How many do you actually remember? Of course, I’m not trying to argue that this is a classic movie, but I just wanted to make the point that movies have always been a profit-driven industry.
I don’t care for current releases of this film. Why? Because over-dubbed the sounds of the gunshots ad riccochets! Soomeone decided that they were too “silly” (I suppose) and made them more “realistic!” To me, that is like dubbing Clint Eastwood’s “Man with no name” with Wally Cox. Plain stupid!
@jammersanimovieblog While still giving a crap about their product. Do you really think if they made this movie today, it would be as good quality. Not saying all the stuff today sucks (I love the Star Trek reboot), but the trend today is less product quality and more assured profitability. It’s why James Cameron had trouble financing Titanic. Corporate interests these days rather make a little money guaranteed, than gamble on quality that may give back a larger return.Wasn’t always the case
@corbinmichael123 Movies have always been about that. Hate to break it to you. In fact, that’s the only reason this film was possible. The first two made money, so they put more money into this.
@Detteb Yes, and they were all made around the same time in roughly the same style. There’s nothing wrong with sequels (or remakes) if done right. What I’m saying is today, almost everything is profit driven. Nothing wrong with that, if you can stand by your product. The moment you care more about the money and not what you’ve made, the quality will suffer. I can almost guarantee, if Hollywood remakes this (I’m sure sooner or later they will), it will not measure up to this classic.
God!! They just don’t make movies like this anymore. It’s all about the remakes and reboots, the franchises and profits. It’s all about how much you can milk a dead cow and to hell with artistry. Hollywood…where risk taking, storytelling and originality take a backseat to assured mediocre profitability, ego driven politics and corporate influenced bottom line movie making.
I remember first watching this move when I was about 15 and ever since then it’s became one of my favourite’s of all time. Utter genius in every aspect, from the to the directing to the performances. Movie gold!
I watch this movie OVER 85 TIMES in my life and STILL NEVER GET TIRED of it
is a REAL CLASSIC OF ALL TIMES…..even after 40 some years ago….

@corbinmichael123 You realise this is the third in a trilogy, so basically a sequel? Exactly like they do today
